Xen

XEN is a virtualisation software architecture for x86, which supports the simultaneous execution of multiple operating systems on one computer with great performance and minimal resource consumption.
XEN is open source software, available under the GNU General Public License. Already supports Linux 2.4 and 2.6, and in the future will support BSD distributions as well.
The most common applications of XEN are demanding systems, such as Servers running MySQL, Apache and PostgreSQL.
The secret of XEN that makes it so special is its architecture. One part of it is placed in the core operating system that will host the virtual operating systems and the other in the core of the hosted operating systems. As a result the performance is very close to the performance of a non virtualised system.
